Every year on June 14, the world celebrates Blood Donor Day. This day is supported by organizations such as the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Donors, the International Federation of Red Cross / Crescent Societies and the International Society of the Blood Transfusion. This year holiday "Give blood for life!" was held under the motto, and focuses on the involvement of the young people in voluntary free blood donation.
Traditionally, annually, Azerbaijan hosts various events dedicated to the World Blood Donor Day on June 14, and taking into account the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the Crescent Society organized an online webinar.
Speaker of the webinar, the head of the project coordination department of the Center for Public Health and Reforms of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Babazadeh noted cooperation with the organizers of the seminar in the field of public health.
Based on the local and international sources about voluntary, free, regular blood donation, history, organization and development of blood donation, the situation with donating blood in the world and in Azerbaijan, the webinar discussed the impact of blood donation on people. Extensive information was provided on medical and social aspects. In the end, all health care workers, regardless of their specialization, were encouraged to actively participate in this work and to mobilize to build the right understanding and awareness among the population.
